disable DRS/HA and only put the number of VM's you want on each host.

What is the reason for this request, just curious?

I dont know of a way of setting a hard limit of VMs per host. You could use resource pools to control overloading a host. There are also maximum defined.

Troy,

Is there a way to achieve that (limit the VM's on a host) without disabling the DRS ? I still want to benefit from the DRS option.

I have around 70 VM's running on a cluster with 2 ESX (2 quad and 32GB on each host) and I'm starting to get into the host full capacities.

Attach is a screen shoot.

Thank you all for your replays.

The whole point of DRS is to help in load balancing your cluster. So, if you have DRS enabled (fully automated) it's going to be tough. My advise would be to just try to manually balance the load a bit better and consider that cluster to be at capacity.

With 32GB of RAM per ESX Host, 35:1 is probably getting close to your limits anyway.
