ESX3.0.1+Arcserve 11.5+HP Autoloader 1/8, Arcserve backup doesnt work

Hi all,

is there anyone know the answer to my problem:

Platform : ESX3.0.1

VM : Windows 2003 server

Backup software : ARCSERVE 11.5, SP2

Tape drive : HP Autoloader 1/8

I cant get the Arcserve software to work, when i start the backup jon, it stops at :"Calculation session"

and Tape Engine stops sometime.

Autoloaders are not supportted on ESX or in the VM's. While I've been able to get a VM to see both the autoloader and tape drive in a VM, it never worked correctly. As a best practice don't connect backup devices to ESX, use a physical machine for backups. If you have to use a backup device on ESX, it only supports a standalone tape device connected to an certain model adaptec card.....refer to esx backup guide.

Dave, have you talked to VMware about autoloaders and their support or is this information coming from your brake-fix experiense?

I was trying to get IBM 3581 autoloader to work on VMware ESX3.0.1 (guess os W2K03R2) and was not able to do so.
