How to add / remove VMFS datastore ?

We are using ESX Hosts 3.01 in a cluster and we have upgraded the SAN recently.

We would like to know if we would like to add / remove VMFS datastore, is it necessary for us

1) Shutdown the VMs on those ESX Hosts ?

2) Enter Maintenance Mode for the ESX Hosts ?

OR just add the LUN and presented to the Cluster without entering maintenance mode ?

You can add and remove a datastore to a server without going into maintenance mode.

Just present the LUN and do a storage rescan.
