Update Manager: Scan Entity hanging

Hi,

I am having a strange problem while running a scan for updates on one ESX server. I have 2 ESXs configured with HA and DRS. The update manager is present on the virtual center server, and all 3 (2 ESX and VC ) are in the same network segment.

While performing the scan on the first machine, it starts, open firewall ports, finishes the scan and closes the firewall ports. I guess that is how it should work everytime :).

Strangely enough when I do the same thing on the second ESX it just hangs, even before showing the opening ports message, so I can only see: Scan Entity - In progress. The scan entity is still there after some 3-4 hours. First of all how can I kill it?

And second question, how to troubleshoot this?

I only tried to restart mgmt-vmware service on the esx, but it didn't help.

Hello,

Check out http://www.astroarch.com/wiki/index.php/VUM_shows_%27Connection_Refused%27_error as an issue. Sounds like your VUM is failing to connect or something else. Try running the update direct from ESX to get more information.
