Our ESX 3.5 (U5) environment is producing strange results when I scan for updates. All of our hardware is exactly the same (HP DL380G6 with the same exact processors, RAM, NICs, HBAs etc all across our 8 ESX host in 2 clusters, 1 for test and 1 for prod. The build number for all 8 ESX hosts is 213532 and all hosts have always been patched together so they should all have the same updates etc.
I just ran a "Scan for updates" on both clusters using the same baseline, but the results are different from 1 host to the other. They all are missing 8 critical host updates and 5 non-critical host updates but they seem to be reporting differing numbers of already installed updates.
esx1 critical is compliant on 53 updates and non-compliant on 8 updates
esx1 non-critical is compliant on 54 updates and non-compliant on 5 updates
esx2 critical is compliant on 53 updates and non-compliant on 8 updates
esx2 non-critical is compliant on 54 updates and non-compliant on 5 updates
esx3 critical is compliant on 53 updates and non-compliant on 8 updates
esx3 non-critical is compliant on 51 updates and non-compliant on 5 updates
esx4 critical is compliant on 53 updates and non-compliant on 8 updates
esx4 non-critical is compliant on 54 updates and non-compliant on 5 updates
esx5 critical is compliant on 47 updates and non-compliant on 8 updates
esx5 non-critical is compliant on 48 updates and non-compliant on 5 updates
esx6 critical is compliant on 47 updates and non-compliant on 8 updates
esx6 non-critical is compliant on 48 updates and non-compliant on 5 updates
esx7 critical is compliant on 56 updates and non-compliant on 8 updates
esx7 non-critical is compliant on 49 updates and non-compliant on 5 updates
esx8 critical is compliant on 52 updates and non-compliant on 8 updates
esx8 non-critical is compliant on 48 updates and non-compliant on 5 updates
Any thoughts on why we see different numbers of installed updates on these hosts when they are all identical in every possible way?
