VLAN need layer 2 switch ?

Hi,

I'm looking informations on VLAN under ESXi 3.5.

Here are all links I've found :

http://www.vmware.com/pdf/esx3_vlan_wp.pdf

http://www.vmadmin.co.uk/index.php/resources/35-esxserver/91-esxnetciscotrunklinkagg

http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=100425...

http://www.formortals.com/implementing-vlan-trunking/

VM (in DMZ) are Windows 2K Pro SP4, 2K3 Server, 2K8 Server, XP Pro SP3.

ESXi have one port on the LAN and the other one on the DMZ.

DMZ is linked to a Netgear FVX538v2 router which don't have Layer 2 support.

So what is the best implementation ? EST, VST, VGT ?

Must I buy a L2/L3 switch to do VLAN isolation ?

Thanks,

Vincent
