VMDK flat files not viewable in datastore browser

When I open the Virtual Center and go to the datastore browser, I can view all the files for a given VM except the flat file. How can I fix this? Does anyone else have this behavior?

The reason I am concerned about this is because our backup software (esxRanger) has been failing on some of our backups. Vizioncore claims this is because the flat vmdk files are not visible in the Virtual Center. Since their software backs up through the VC API, this can supposedly cause problems.

Why do you want to view these?

VMDK flat files are the actual VM disks.

I have no reason to view these files. I was told that if they are not visible in the datastore browser, the are not visible through the VC APIs. This causes problems with our backups.

I've opened up a SR with VMware, this a new bug they've been able to replicate.
