VSwitch Remove

Hello ,

This is with regards to the VSwitch removal from ESX networking. Since ealier my infrastructure was not having more physical nics. So with having one single Nic Service Console and VM's were configured.

Therefore Vswitch0 got created having Vm's and Service Console in it. Now we got suffcient nics to configure the Service console, Vmotion and VM's seperately. i need to reconfigure it once again.

wanted to know if i remove the Vswitch0 will the VM's in it and assosiated Host get affected. Is thre any alternate way for this..

Kindly let me know at the earliest.

thanks

Raghu

If I were you this is what I would do. Create the new vSwitch that you want to use for the virtual machines and then bind the physical nics to the new vSwitch. You can then move the Virtual Machines from one vSwtich to the other with very limited disruption of network communication. It will lose communication during the switch for a couple of seconds so test your own environment first and then plan accordingly.

Once all the VM's have been moved you can delete that portgroup from the orignal vSwitch and move on. FYI try not to touch the service console configuration so you do not lose communication with the host.

Hello,

Moved to ESX 3.5 forum.

I can not add anything to sbeaver's comments.
