Why do the VM's say "not connected" even tho I am running HA?

One of my ESX's is off (of two). Shouldn't I have the option to power them on instead of them being greyed out considering my other esx server is on and I am using VS Center? Thanks.

In an HA scenario, when a server dies, the vm's are moved. If you power down a server with the vm's on it shutdown, then HA won't really kick in. The shutdown vm's will stay down, and as in your scenario, show disconnected. You can right-click the vm's, remove from inventory, then browse your datastore, and then right click on the vmx file, and add to inventory.

Thank you! This makes sense! (I could also click the button to "migrate" them I guess.)
