can't navigate to a directory with a parenthesis in it. Help

I am trying to navigate to a directory within our vmware server. Unfortunatly the directory name is this

CTXShared (Citrix AAC & Web)

When I try to navigate to this the kernel is seeing the parenthesis as a syntax I think because it references this '('

How can I navigate to this folder?

Try to enclose it in quotes - cd "CTXShared (Citrix AAC & Web)"

Is this VMware ESX or Server that you're using?

As a best practice I would suggest never putting any special charaters in your names (including spaces) except for an underscore if necessary.

The shell auto-completion is a huge time saver: when you begin typing the name of a file or directory, just hit "tab". If the shell finds a file/directory beginning with what you started typing, it will auto-complete the rest of the word.

In your case, you would have seen it automatically backslash'es the parenthesis this way: " \(".

Auto-completion can be considered as the most important feature of any modern Unix shell, it would be a shame not making use of it Smiley Happy
