how to attach existing iSCSI data store without destroying data?

I have a replica of an ESX data store that I need to attach to an esx server. Every time I try to add it as an ESX data store it warns me that all data will be destroyed. how can I mount it so that I can restore some files that I have on the volume. the replica has been promoted to a regular iSCSI volume.

You'll want to take a look at the EnableResignature and DisallowSnapshot settings. See page 117 here - http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vi3_35/esx_3/r35/vi3_35_25_san_cfg.pdf. Which setting you change will depend on your exact situation and that's explained on page 119.
