I cant get ESXi to install on an IBM HS40 blade. (these olnly have internal IDE drives) I get an error
ESX 3.5 will install. Is thier an install option to get pass this or some type of work around. It looks like it is having a problem with the blade consol redirect.
Unlike ESX you can't install ESXi to IDE drives. There is a work around here to getting ESXi to install on IDE, but it is not supported - http://www.vm-help.com/esx/esx3i/ESXi_install_to_IDE_drive/ESXi_install_to_IDE_drive.php.
I tried the work around, setting the targetfilter.py to iscsi, it still would not install. I found the storage controller in lspci, and in the HCL, but esx still fails to install. ESX 3.5 , of course installs easliy. I am wondering, after installing esx 3.5, can I just downgrade to esxi?

You have to disable the remote console redirection and the debug port in the BIOS of the HS40, then it works !
By the way, my HS40 has SCSI harddrives ?!?
I am working on this, willl let you know how it turn out.
