HP servers certified for ESXi

On page I read that "Hardware. VMware ESXi has been certified with industry-leading rack, tower and blade servers from Dell, Fujitsu Siemens, HP, IBM, and NEC as well as servers that conform to Intel white-box standard specifications.".

Where can I locate an up-to-date list of HP servers certified for ESXi (or should I look for servers certified for ESX instead of ESXi)?

Is there any available guideline to configure such servers?

Regards

Marius

Take a look here - http://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility. The list will tell you what's certified for both ESX and ESXi.

Marius,

What particular HP server are you going to try? I just loaded ESXi server 3.5 on a HP Proliant DL380 G4. It has 6gb memory and an MSA30 storage array attached on a dual scsi bus. I used the SmartStart CD to create the LUNs on the storage array and the drives in the server. Next I exited SmartStart and swapped the CDs for the ESXi install CD. Took about 4-5 minutes to install. I configured the static IP etc. and can connect to the VM from another server using the IP.

I am currently stuck at downloading the Virtual Infrastructure Client. Got the question posted.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you to everybody for the useful pointer.

Let me underline that my question is related to ESXi, the free version.

Can I say that what supports the ESX 3.5 version supports the ESXi version as well?

Regards

Mario

If you're concerned with a system being officially supported, then the list of ESXi is not as extensive as the ESX list. But a system that can run ESX will mostlikely be OK with ESXi.

Mario,

The link that Dave provide above has an advanced search feature that lets you specify ESX or ESXi. It returns 34 HP servers certified for ESXi 3.5 Embedded U3.

This link might provide you with a CSV file of the 34 servers.
