I'm trying to up grade to up4 build 153875 from 143149 using the same working drive, but it fails with the error message "Unable to find supported device...". The older version of ESXi works just fine on the drive. I can load it to the drive. Any ideas on how this can be resolved.
Thanks
Welcome to the VMware Community forums. You won't use the Update 4 CD to upgrade from a prior release. See here for some methods to upgrade - http://www.vm-help.com/esx/esx3i/Patch_3i_without_VC.php.
Also take a look at this prior to upgrading - http://www.vm-help.com/esx/esx3i/no_persistent_storage_after_upgrade.php.
Hi Dave,
I did as instructed on the first part of your attachment and seem to go ok.
It updated the host and everthing, the only problem is it also took out the
datastore and along with it the two VMs. It doesn't find old datastore.

Did you try this? http://www.vm-help.com/esx/esx3i/no_persistent_storage_after_upgrade.php.
Thanks for the info, it worked like a charm. Your saved one Exchange server and an AD. Now, what documant is there that tells you how to get to the command line?
Thanks again for the help.
Mike
Glad it helped - see here for console / SSH access - http://www.vm-help.com/esx/esx3i/ESXi_enable_SSH.php.
