VMTools Help Required

Hi;

Just need some clarification regarding vmtools and NIC driver versions;

Currently running ESX 3.5i Build 213532 with WIN2K3 hosts;

From reading other resources I understand that there are 3 versions of vmxnet - vmxnet /2 /3.

Under OS network settings the driver is listed as:-

VMware PCI Ethernet Adapter with a driver date of 19/01/2009 and version 2.0.3.6;

a) Can anyone tell me if this is the standard vmxnet driver or the vmxnet 2 driver?

b) If it is not the version 2 how do I obtain the required VMTools upgrade?

Many thanks

Kern

With ESX 3.x you have vmxnet or enhanced-vmxnet (aka vmxnet2).

On some VM you can have also E1000.

To see which driver are you using see VM properties / NIC properties.

You have the options as mentioned to use vmxnet(flexible), vmxnet2, or E1000 in some cases. Vmxnet 3 is only available in ESX version 4.
