As of now, we cannot download VMware ESXi 3.5 from VMware's site. It seems like VMware discovered a problem and has temporarily halted downloading.
Does anyone know when we'll be able to download it again?
Thanks.
It is supposed to be in the next few days.

Can we download it from an alternate site in the meantime?
Not sure if this link still works...

If you have an existing ESXi install, you only need to download and install the patch - http://www.vmware.com/go/esxiu2patch081208.
Hy,
their availability is expected by August 13, 2008 at 6pm PST.
Just checked (6:08 PDT).
Not available yet. I'll check tomorrow morning.
So much for the 6PM PST release.
Yeah, they missed 6:00p.m. PDT yesteray too.

i wonder if anyone knows how to apply the patch, cos for the love of god i dont know how to do that, i read how to do it with the free version or is it that u cant do it with that version, should we wait for a patched ISO? please guys share ur info.
I tried clicking on the kb article in order to follow the directions to install the patch but the link is broken. Can someone post the install instructions? Thanks.
Try the Virtual Infrastructure Update application - http://www.vm-help.com/esx/esx3i/Patch_3i_without_VC.html. If you don't have it, try a custom install of the VI client and see if you can add it in.
Dave,
The VI Update was already installed and it worked. However I did have to reboot my ESXi server in order for the fix to correct the vm general failure issue. Any way I'm up and running. Thanks.
Nick
With a firmware update for ESXi you'll always have to reboot because in essence the patch is installing a second copy of the firmware on the USB key or HD. When you reboot, you boot from the patched (newer) boot bank and the old boot firmware becomes the alternate boot bank. Should you have a problem with the new firmware, you can press Shift-R during the boot process to boot the old firmware instead. The next time you patch the sytem, it is the alternate boot bank that gets patched, so you'll always have to firmware versions installed with an ESXi install.
Are there future plans for keeping a third and fourth bank for further roll backs?
I haven't heard of any suggestions like that. Generally those who would know wouldn't be able to discuss it and the rest of us just guess :). If it's something you'd like to see, I'd suggest putting a post in the product features forum.
Got it. Thanks Alex.
