VMWare Tools Service has encountered a problem and needs to be closed.

Hi,

We want to use VMWare server to automate testing of our software on different operating systems and configurations.

The main idea is that one or more VM's from a predefined list are started. Each of them is looking for test jobs to execute. If no test has been queued by the nightly build system for that

specific VM, the VM shuts down and another configuration is started. This continues until all queued tests have been executed.

For testing purposes I wrote a small program that starts and stops 2 VM's in a continuous loop.

Sometimes one of the VM's seems to have trouble starting the VMWare Tools Services because a typical Windows Error Reporting dialog pops up with the following message "VMWare Tools Service has encountered a problem and needs to be closed"

I'm using VMWare Server 1.0.4 and VIX API 1.1.2.

The server is running on Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard x64 Edition Service Pack 2.

Attached is the dump information that is supposedly to be sent to the WER site.

Any idea what might cause the VMWare Tools Service to go in error.
