Windows 8.1 Fusion 8.0 Can’t update VMWare tools
Installer quits “prematurely”.
How can I get VMWare Tools to actually install? It is making it impossible to use VM this way.
Also VM is 53GB+ and only has a few applications installed. Is there a good option to slim down Windows 8.1? VM recovery didn’t free much up.
Regards

While running Windows, open and run Disk Cleanup. Also Cleanup System files, and then in Tools, delete all but the most recent restore point. If you haven't done that before, it should reduce your VM size quite a bit. Then Reclaim disk space after you've shut down Windows.
Note that the process can take quite a bit of time in Win 8 and 8.1, at least in my experience.
Did you tried to uninstall VMware Tools before you start to upgrade it?
