Customised Name for Guest Introspection appliance

Hello,

Was wondering if someone could answer my question around the guest introspection appliance name. I'm wanting to customise the names of already deployed and functional GIs, will changing the names within vCenter impact anything?

is it worth them having a DNS record? will this impact anything?

We are running the NSX 6.4.0

vCenter 6.5

ESXi 6.5

Renaming services VM's remains unsupported , you may please refer VMware Knowledge Base  and the good news is , for Anti-virus Service VMs and Guest Introspection USVM with NSX 6.4.0 or later and for Network Introspection Service VMs with NSX 6.2.4 or later, NSX Manager exposes the ESXi hostname on which the third-party Service VM or Guest Introspection USVM is running to improve operational manageability. So i think that would be sufficient enough from a manageability/visibility perspective. DNS is not a requirement for Guest Introspection to get deployed or protect the VM's -NTP is key , we should ensure NSX Manager and the prepared hosts that will run Guest Introspection services are linked to the same NTP server
