power on vms

I am trying to poweron vms starting with a naming like this

tst-*

in a poweroff state.

so I go

get-vm tst-* | start-vm

nothing happens

You got the syntax right, so that's not the problem. Did you first login using Connect-VIServer? Can you be more specific than "nothing"? Do you see any error messages, either in your console, or in a VI Client connected to the same server(s)?
