When trying to install I get the error 1311. Source file not found. and the V2V.cab file is listed. I have verified that the file is there.
I saw in another thread that you can copy the install files to a new directory while this error is being displayed and then double-click the .msi file. I tried that and get the same error. Any solutions available for this problem?

did you had any previous version of player installed ? (or another vmware product ?)
can you look for the installation log file, it should be in c:\windows\temp IIRC
This is the first attempt to run VMware on this computer.
I could not find any log files for the install. "I looked in C:\Windows\temp". I even tried re-running the install to generate a new one.
maybe the install source was corrupted during the download ?
for the log file, it could be located elsewhere, have a look at your user temp dir :
Start --> Run --> %temp%
this will open the current user temp dir
or use windows search to locate log files created in the setup timeframe
