A different USB problem with Guest WinXP.....

1. Added "usbfs /proc/bus/usb usbfs auto 0 0" to the host /etc/fstab file

as recommended in Doc ID: 3862823

2. Restarted host.

3. Plugged in Cruzer 2.0mb stick, Host auto-recognizes USB memory stick

and pops up usbdisk - File Browser. Cool.

4. Fired up VMware XP host. (USB still inserted)

VM -> Removable Devices -> USB Devices -> SanDisk Corp U3 Cruzer Micro = NOT CHECKED

5. Clicked on the "VM -> Removable Devices -> USB Devices -> SanDisk Corp U3 Cruzer Micro"

6. VM popped a Question box - "A USB device is about to be unplugged from the host and connected to this virtual machine. It will first be stopped to enable safe removal. With some devices the host may display the message: The device can be safely removed"

7. Clicked OK to the above Question Box.

8. Another Question Box popped: "The specified device appears to be claimed by another driver (usb-storage) on the host operating system which means that the device may be in use. To continue, the device will first be disconnected from it's current driver.

9. Clicked OK in the above Question Box. USB disconnected from host.

10. Guest recognized the USB stick but pops a "Hint" box: "Your VM has sent an ATAPI(CD-ROM) command that is supported only when programming the drive via DMA. You will need to configure you Guest operating system to use DMA when communicating with DVD/CD-Rom devices."

Question: Why is VM sending commands to the CD-Rom at this point???

And how do I configure the guest WinXP for this?

11. Clicked OK to the Hint box.

12. The VM Windows XP went to Blue Screen of Death (BSOD). This is reproduceable!!![/b]

I have a screen shot of the BSOD but don't know how to include it here.

Some of the info in the screen capture is:

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Technical Information:

STOP: 0x000000D1 (0x67536541, 0x00000002, 0x0000001, 0xF9C86F2D)
