Add Physical Disk Error

Hi All,

I am trying to add a physical disk to a VM running in VMware Workstation 14.1.3 and am failing. I get a number of different errors issues when doing this. KBs and Google seem a little laxed on things to try.

The physical disk is just a basic SATA HD connected via SATA. The guest OS is MAC OSX 10.14. The reason for me doing this is the Disk has an MAC-OSX partition on it and I would like to read stuff off it. This has worked in the past.

Scenario 1:

When I hot add the physical disk to the VM i get the following error message.

And this in the logs.

Scenario 2:

When i add the disk with the VM turned off it allows the adding however the Guest does not post. I do not see the VMware logo and it just hangs at a black screen.

Any ideas, thoughts, suggestion would be appreciated.
