Help with installing vmware tools onto a windows 7 VM

Hello. I'm running a win7 ultimate virtual machine on a windows 10 host. I'd like to install vmware tools so that I can drag and drop files between the two systems. I'm just a bit confused on how to actually install this for my VM.

From the downloads section here I see two downloads..

  • VMware Tools packages for Windows
  • VMware Tools for Windows, 64-bit in-guest installer

Which of these suit my application and how do I install them? Any guidance appreciated.

Thank you.

Not sure what you're asking about "downloads section".  The VMware Tools installers are already installed on your host as part of the Workstation installation/setup.  Just power on the VM - make sure it is defined as Windows 7 - and once logged in, go to the menu VM-->Install VMware Tools.

Note there are some issues with Win7 VMs and the latest tools - there are some MS patches which need to be installed first.  Search the forum.
