Internet Connection on Windows 98 and VMware 5.5.4

Hi all.

Months ago I installed Windows 98 and it worked perfectly, with audio and adsl properly working.

I've recently bought a new router (D-Link DSL-G624T) and internet doesn't work any more. I've 3 devices on my lan (desktop 192.168.1.2, Laptop1 192.168.1.3 and Laptop2 192.168.1.6).

In the "Network Adapter" window I've selected "Bridged: Connected directly to the physical network" and in Windows 98 I can get in my router' wireless setup, but I can't surf, because everytime I get the page I've attached in this post; I've tried to check NAT or Host Only but it's the same...

What can I do?

Thank you in advance

Nicolò

So it is all in your Internet Explorer settings. Check (post) them all.

Which version do you use?

Please post/attach results of "IPCONFIG /ALL" on your physical machine.

PLease post/attach a screenshot of "winipcfg" from Win98 guest.

Please post/attach "vmware.log" file from Win98 guest directory on physical machine.

You are not using bridged connection now.

ethernet0.connectionType = nat

ethernet0.vnet = VMnet1

Restart Workstation and restart guest, then post/attach "vmware.log" again.

Good. Disable XP firewall and try from your Win98 guest ping your XP host:

ping 192.168.1.2

Does it work? Does your guest still have 192.168.1.5 IP address.

Can you ping guest itself?

ping 192.168.1.5

Yes, I can ping 192.168.1.2 and 192.168.1.5 both without any problem. XP firewall is disabled.

Can you ping your gateway?

ping 192.168.1.1

Can you add DNS of 4.2.2.2 in TCP/IP settings?

Like shown here:

Yes, I can ping 192.168.1.1 too.

Have I to insert 4.2.2.2 as shown in the screenshot?

I did it and rebooted but Internet still doesn't work.

I've just discovered that my XP' virtual machine internet connection works fine.

I chose NAT network in vmware settings.

As you can see in the screenshot, XP uses others IP, another Gateway, another DHCP server...:0 I'm confused!

There are also 30 minutes among the starting lease and the final lease (how can I extend the interval?).

Thanks for you help!

Lease can be extended by modifying those settings in vmnetdhcp.conf

default-lease-time 1800;

max-lease-time 7200;

Try to ping this address from Win98 guest:

ping 68.180.206.184

If it doesn't work try to determine where it breaks:

tracert 68.180.206.184

For the lease time, I found vmnetdhcp.conf in X:\documents and settings\all user.

I modified 1800 to 180000 and 7200 to 720000 but there are always 30 minutes among the starting and the final lease.
