Hi.

I have Ubuntu 9.10 running with VMware 7 on a WinXP SP3 host machine (box1). I access this computer via another WinXP SP3 remote machine (box2). I have a german keyboard on both box1 and box2.

When I use remote desktop from box2 to work with Ubuntu 9.10 (running as guest on VMware 7 / box1) , special characters as "", "¤", "|", ... (all via AltGr key) aren't displayed.

The mentioned keys ...

... work on box2 using WinXP

... work on box2 using Ubuntu

... work on box1 using WinXP

... work on box1 using Ubuntu

... work on box1 using WinXP via remote desktop from box2

... DON'T work on box1 using Ubuntu via remote desktop from box2

Are there any VMware character set configurations I need to adapt?

Which remote desktop do you use? VNC, X, ssh...?

This seems not to be VMWare related as VMware is not involved here. You are using some remote desktop tool via a standard protocol. All handled by your box2 OS and the guest OS.

Hi.

Sorry, I forgot to mention this. When I login remotely, I use the RDP (Window XP SP3 built-in remote desktop). I don't use the VMware VNC feature for the guest.

Also for RDP, I don't see where I could possibly tweak the keyboard settings ?!?!

Instead of only Alt gr try strg and alt gr and the key you need.

No, didn't change anything!

Also, I noticed that when using a VNC Client (like UltraVNC), my keyboard mapping layout gets completely messy. On top of the above mentioned problems, I have a qwerty keyboard i.s.o. a qwertz one.

Are there any VMware related settings regarding keyboard mapping?

Hi.

Meanwhile I found out, that only the "|" key is affected.

All other keys work fine through the Windows Remote Desktop via VMware to Ubuntu guest.

Nobody having any idea why I can't get the "|" key properly showing on Ubuntu.
