Need solution to auto backup/ restore vm

What is the best solution to have quick backup and restore vm?

As I use vm many times per day to test software installer.

What I did currently is

1. Create One clean vm, then copy another one and install installer A

2. After comple 1. Then copy another copy again to install installer B

3. Then copy 2. Vm and do my installer upgrade test.

I found this way uses lots of time as my computer spec is low and copying one vm cost about 20mins.

Anyone here have food suggestion? Something like create backup and restore point? As I need a clean environment to proceed my install/ upgrade installer validation.

When the projects growing, I do not have sufficient space for all the VMs...but I really need a backup of each version in case I need a urgent call.

Have you tried using snapshots?  This actually sounds like a good use case for them.

After step 1 you could create several linked clones and try various installers in the linked clones.

Creating a linked clone is very fast and the new VM only needs a few MBs to start
