The connected USB storage device does not appear in a Windows virtual machine

Hello Community

I have a virtual machine with Windows XP and another with Windows Server 2008 and in both the VMware version is 10.0.3.

When I place a device via USB, it does not appear in any of the virtual machines.

In the bar at the bottom right does not appear the icon of a pendrive.

The device if seen on the laptop, the operating system of the same is Windows 10.

2 weeks ago the virtual machine if you saw the USB devices.

If it was working two weeks ago and not working now, was there any Windows updates or any other software update?

Workstation 10.x is quite old and pre-dated Windows 10 by several years.

Usually when USB device does not appear in the "Removable Devices" menu is because the VMware USB Arbitration Service is not running (check in services.msc). Check also if hcmon is running.

From command line

sc query VMUSBArbService

sc query hcmon

So if the VMware USB Arbitration Service is fail to start (even manually from services.msc), you can start it from command line.

You can look at this other thread for guidance (it is for 12.5.x) but I assume it should be relatively the same.

VMWare Workstation 12.5.5 / VMWare USB Arbitration Service

The services marked in yellow were stopped. The start and so you can see the pendrive icon.
