Hello.
I have been playing old games on a guest OS (Windows 95, XP, etc) on VMware.
Recently I have encountered some strange mouse behavior in games. It behaves like a joystick or gamepad or whatever you call it. As soon as the mouse is off center, the mouse stops moving. When I lower the sensitivity to the absolute minimum, it seems like the game wants to follow the direction of the mouse when it is off center. Just like with a joystick.
So far I've tried:
- Setting "Optimize mouse for games" to "Always". - No change in behavior. Even if I set "Never" or "Automatic", nothing changes.
- Reinstalling the mouse driver on the guest operating system. - No change.
- Running games in full screen mode, borderless window and windowed mode. - No change.
This problem affects all games on all operating systems. It does not matter if I run a Linux or Windows guest. The strange behavior of the mouse occurs over and over again.
I have also tried a modern operating system like Windows 11 and modern games. Same problem. The age of the operating system or the game does not matter either. It seems to be a general problem in VMware itself.
Is there any way to fix the problem?
