Hello,
I am using Workstation 7.1 on a Windows 7 Pro x64 host and I am seeing the VERY long time shut down problem with Vista discussed here:
http://communities.vmware.com/message/1034395#1034395
The answer given talks about a config.ini file and I just can't find it, since the answer was for Workstation 6 I assume that he settings are done somewhere else. My VM is on an external USB drive so the scenario is very similar.
Any points to take care of this would be much appreciated.
Sid.

your config.ini may be blank - so configure it first.
Open memory preferences ... menu > edit > preferences > memory and click the option "Fit all ..."
after that your config.ini should be created - if you still can not find it - either fix your explorer settings to not hide system files and directories - or open any recent vmware.log - it shows the path to the config.ini

Thank you. I looked in a log file and found two config.ini files, one for the "user" and one for the "host". Which one should I edit? Both?
Sid.
try the one for the host - you will see if the values are used in the next vmware.log

I placed the following into the "host" cofig file and they appear in the logfile, so I assume the values are being used:
.encoding = "windows-1252"
prefvmx.minVmMemPct = "100"
useNamedFile= "FALSE"
mainMem.partialLazySave = "FALSE"
mainMem.partialLazyRestore = "FALSE"
However the black screen is still present for several minutes with a major "disk thrash" occuring during that time.
Is there anything more I can do?
Many thanks,
Sid.

Once again excellent support thank you so much for helping. I must have made that mistake when I did the copy and paste from the other message thread.
Shut down now just has a few seconds of black screen.
Sid.
