WinPE 2.0 - Network Drivers for XP

I am trying to use Workstation to test an application that works with Windows installation. Because it works on installations, the programs run under WinPE 1.1 and 2.0. WinPE 1.1 is based on Win2003 kernal and PE 2.0 is based on Vista. So, here is my problem: When I create a VM based on Vista and boot it using the WinPE 2.0 CD, the PC boots fine and the PC is able to connect and run on the network. When I boot the XP based VM with the WinPE 2.0 CD the PC boots ok but the network card is not found (it is connected). Both VM's were created the same (same memory, disk, etc) except one was based on XP Pro and one based on Vista. The problem gets worse, if I create a VM based on Vista but load XP Pro (sp2), the Network Card works fine thru the PE 2.0 and install but on boot XP does not load drivers for the card. I tried to install the VMWare Tools but the driver is still not found. I tried to manually install the driver and it will not load.

Anybody have an idea on how to get a working XP Install from a PE 2.0 Boot (Vista based) or get PE 2.0 to have drivers for the XP based machine?

Vista (and thus, WinPE 2.0, most likely) requires the E1000 virtual NIC. An XP VM, by default, will use the vlance one. You \*can* specify for an XP VM to use the e1000 NIC, but you must do it manually in the vmx file (ethernet0.virtualDev = "e1000").

Thanks for the feedback. Is there somewhere I can get an XP driver for the e1000 VM driver?
