Workstation guest hangs "Probing EDD"

Hi,

I copied some VMDKs over to a new laptop.  These are for a Centos 64-bit guest.  However, when I try to start the guest on the laptop, I get a popup that says "The CPU has been disabled by the guest operating system".  I  can see the guest outputs "Probing EDD" to the console.

Does anyone  know how to get this working?

FYI, I found this:

https://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=40782

but when I go into the VMware guest's BIOS, I don't see a setting for "EDB".

This is on VMware workstation 6.5x.  Host is Windows 7 64 bit.

Thanks,

Jim

Hi,

I'm attaching the vmware.log.

Also BTW, these  same VMDKs boot ok with VirtualBox.

Hi,

I found that the HOST BIOS had a setting for EDB (Execute Disable Bit), but that was already set to "Available".

I tried setting it to "Not available" but the guest still has the same error when I try to start it.

Hi,

Also, BTW, the current laptop processor is an Intel I3.  It has VT-X enabled.
