The host OS is Gentoo Linux, kernel version 2.6.27-gentoo-r8, running on a dual core AMD64. The guest OS is Windows XP. The version of VMware Workstation is 6.5.1, build 126130.
The guest OS cannot access the network. It issues the error message " Could not open /dev/vmnet0: No such file or directory" when it starts. I see the following messages in dmesg after restarting vmware with command /etc/init.d/vmware restart:
/dev/vmci[10123]: Module vmci: unloaded
/dev/vmmon[10139]: Module vmmon: unloaded
/dev/vmmon[10223]: Module vmmon: registered with major=10 minor=165
/dev/vmmon[10223]: Initial HV check: anyNotCapable=0 anyUnlocked=1 anyEnabled=1 anyDisabled=0
/dev/vmmon[10223]: HV check: anyNotCapable=0 anyUnlocked=1 anyEnabled=1 anyDisabled=0
/dev/vmmon[10223]: Module vmmon: initialized
/dev/vmci[10241]: VMCI: Driver initialized.
/dev/vmci[10241]: Module vmci: registered with major=10 minor=58
/dev/vmci[10241]: Module vmci: initialized
/dev/vmmon[10937]: PTSC: initialized at 2210373000 Hz using reference clock
I can see the device files /dev/vmci and /dev/vmmon after restarting, but no /dev/vmnet.
I know Gentoo is not a supported host OS, but I had it working fine with version 6.5.0.
Thanks in advance for any help.
