"Shared Folder" with local mapped network drive on host

I'am having a host-only Windows Server 2003 VM and want to access a dedicated network share in company's LAN (e.g.
server1\share). Adding a new NAT or bridged network adapter is no option for me. My VM host is a Windows 7 machine running VMware Workstation 7.

My idea is to map the network share on the host (e.g. net use X:
server1\share) and share that drive into my VM with "Shared Folders".

Surprisely it works well but only for read access and not for write access. I'm able to create new files within the shared folder but it is not possible to modify any files. I get Access Denied errors. All files have set the "read-only" flag.

Can anybody explain this behavior? Any other ideas?

Thanks a lot in advance

Welcome to the forums!

Unfortunatley the Shared Folder feature in VMware Workstation is nothing for serious work. It shpuld make it possible to transfer files between the host and the guest in a quick and dirty manner. Such effects may occur.

You better change to a real network share but if that keeps not to be an option, you may want top copy the files from the network share to a different local folder on the host where the Shared Foldr option points to.

As I suggested, just use simple network shares.
