See you have a inventory in you vcenter. Has lot of hosts. And everytime you login into the Web client( Inventory service works only with the web client) and try seeing a entity there what will the vcenter do? it will go into its database and get the entry for you right?

vCenter inventory service acts like a cache. It stores all the recent or most used inventory entities close to web client. When you navigate to a setting in vcenter now. the vcenter service will not go to its database to get the entity. it will be given by inventory service. this way the load on VPXD is minimized.

Any more doubts?

Thanks for your quick response.

I have seen the page already. But bit confused the definitions what vmware says.

It used to store the all the cache content which requested all the user againts VC.
