Unable to power on VM .vmx error

Hi Team,

Please provide your suggestions on this issue.

while trying to power on VM's getting error like below unable to power on / migrate / unable to create a new VM with existing Hard disk.

An error occurred while opening configuration file "/vmfs/volumes/7f486143-3509236f/cwvops249/cwvops249 vmx": Error.

But we are able to spin a new VM's, those are working fine.

recreate vmx. Mostly bad/corrupt vmx

Identify if any files are locked!

Yes Agreed,

some how .lck files might be a reason, tried to remove the .lck files on the hosts no luck, not in a position to reboot the hosts because, they are having issues to come back online, if we initiate a reboot.

Cause

The failure of a VM to power on may be caused by any of the following reasons:
  • ESXi OS problems
  • File corruption
  • File locks
  • Guest OS problems
  • License problems
  • Network problems
  • Storage Array/Datastore problems
  • User permissions
  • VM configuration problems
  • VM snapshot problems
  • VM unfinished tasks
  • vCenter OS problems

thought of .lck file issues, tried to remove the .lck related to VM deleted the same, still unable to power on.
