Upgrade dvSwitch 6.0 to 6.6 requires brief downtime?

Hi *

I just upgraded my environment (VCSA + ESXi) from 6.0 to 6.7. I'm using standard vSwitchs for management, storage and vmotion traffic, VM traffic uses a dvSwitch.

VMware documentation Upgrade a vSphere Distributed Switch to a Later Version mentions a "brief downtime".

"The upgrade of a distributed switch causes the hosts and virtual machines attached to the switch to experience a brief downtime."

What does it mean? Is this an imperative downtime or a downtime under certain conditions, e.g. VMware Knowledge Base  ? Any experience out there?

Cheers.

Hi @ how are you?

Actually this means the lost of some packages. Some "pings timeout".

Of course, it is important to take a backup of your vDS configuration, so in case of failures, you can create a new one and restore all configurations from the old vDS.

Hello,

Based on my experience, we recommend performing the upgrade for vDS during a maintenance window.

And sure to Export the config before any changes.
