Migrate VM to new cluster

Hello,

we have vCD 10.4.2, and two cluster in  same vCenter Server.

Actual cluster where VM running are "CLS1", new cluster are "CLS2".

All Organization VDC are in Provider VDC "CLS1".

We need to move all our Organization VDC (and all contents and VM) to new cluster "CLS2" due to HW lifecycle.

I can perform well this from vCenter, simply with migrate "Change both compute resource and storage".

How can accomplish this with vCloud Director without impact on VM and customers ?

Both cluster (and hosts) use same Distributed switch.

One way are create on each Organization a new Organization VDC on the new cluster and move one by one each VM to new oVDC.

But, exist a method to move all more fast and transparently for customers ?

Thanks

Hi @tdmtmanu ,

Do you share storage as well among these two cluster CLS-1 and CLS-2?

One way to achieve this by doing a vMotion (Compute only if Storage is shared) from vCenter but make sure that you choose resource pool of CLS-2 but not entire cluster (As vCD works on resource pool tree structure).

If you have non shared storage among CLS-1 and CLS-2, Then best option is to create new VM storage policy on vCenter which belongs to CLS-2 storage and change VM storage policy for VMs from vCD end. This will eventually trigger storage vMotion (Compute + Storage) on vCenter.

Below article explains details about moving VMs across cluster having shared storage.
