Hello,
i am planning to build a Multisite vSAN Stretched Cluster. I have a question for the below setting.
If my VCSA is running on the Preferred site within the stretched cluster. Once the Preferred site was down, will the vsphere HA restart the VCSA on the secondary site esxi host?
i am confusing.. the VC services are down during the Preferred site outage. Suppose that the HA cannot restart the VMs to the secondary site esxi host. Or the VCSA cannot run on the Preferred site ESXI host?
Anyone can help me to clear the picture? Thanks
vCenter 7.0
vSANCluster (Enabled HA and DRS)
- ESXI-A-01 (Preferred site)
- VCSA
- ESXI-A-02 (Preferred site)
- ESXI-A-03 (Preferred site)
- ESXI-B-01 (Secondary site)
- ESXI-B-02 (Secondary site)
- ESXI-B-03 (Secondary site)
WitnessCluster
- vSANWitness (Third site)
Yes, it will. vSphere HA and vSAN works independently of vCenter. It is only needed when changing the configuration.

Thank you Nils.
Ah, i got it... the cluster's ESXI hosts is keep monitoring the peer thru management network/datastore heartbeat..If ESXI host cannot communicate with peer, it is considered to have failed and its virtual machines are restarted elsewhere.
