Core/subscription based vSphere licensing

Hi All,

Question for the latest subscription-based new VMware licensing on per core basis architecture.

I'm still confused about which term/count will be considered for per-core licenses.

I see CPU cores & logical processors, which will be considered for core-based licenses here? 24 cores or 48 logical processors?

The new Broadcom licensing is based on Physical Cores not Logical cores (aka Hyper-threading)

All articles, blogs etc that discuss this matter, when they refer to Cores, they are talking about Physical cores on the socket.

I can't find a VMware article that specifically clarifies this, but a couple of people have asked the question on reddit and this one was clarified by a VMware employee

There's a useful article here also, that discusses the cost per Physical core, for the 4 new offerings

VMware KB article https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/95927 explains the core based new licensing.
The article explains that it's based on physical cores (with a minimum license requirement of 16 cores per CPU).
