Fatal error esxi hosts

Hello Everyone,

I have a strange issue at the moment, and i can't wrap my head around it.

I restarted a ESXI hosts and now it doesn't boot further then normal, the error message is:

"Error 6 (buffer too small) while decompressing input

gzip_extract failed for b.b00"

Could it be the SD card?

Thanks in advance.

If this is a fresh install it could be created with a corrupted download of ISO image. To rule out media issues, please verify the md5 checksum of the downloaded ISO image and - in case you are installing from a CD - burn another CD. If this is an system that has been working for a while, it could well be that the SD card is corrupted.

What version of ESXi are you running? If you're running vSphere 7, please be aware that SD cards are no longer recommended as an installation medium - SD card/USB boot device revised guidance (85685) (vmware.com).

If you also store your your logs on the SD card then it might be possible that they've simply worn out. SD cards don't really have a lot of write endurance - which is also one of the reasons why VMware changed the guidance for them.
