MOVE VIRTUAL DISK TO ANOTHER MACHINE

Hi, I would like to move a secondary virtual disk from one XX virtual machine to another YY in the same ESX.
I use vsphere client versión 6.7.0.42000.

I copied the xx_1.vmdk file to the new machine and I see it in its files, with the name of the old machine, xx_1.vmdk, but I don't know how to make it read by the new YY machine.

Thank you

Ciao,

It depends on the type of OS installed on the VM.
If it's windows you can follow this guide:

Moving a vmdk to a different VM retaining NTFS permissions • Nolabnoparty

it is for an old version of ESXi but I have checked it seems to me that it is nothing strange.

Since you have copied the VMDK you can start from the step:
Add the migrated disk to the new server

Thread reported so moderators know it should be moved to the vSphere area.

Hi, I'm needing to perform the same task. Our VMDKs also have ctk.VMDK files that correspond with each VMDK file. Do you know if any action is needed to deal with those?

Cheers,

Michelle
