Hi,
For Windows Server the licenses go for "Core". What operating system do you have?
The difference between taking the Standard or Datacenter version depends on what you have to do.
Here you can check how many licenses you need per Esxi host:

thanks you for your answer,
i use windows Server 2016 standar and Windows server 2012 Standar dispatched like below
ESXi1 : 10 VMs
ESXi 2 : 7 VMs
ESXI3 : 5 VMs
ESXi4: 17 VMs
also the HA, vMotion are active.
how can i calculate the license in this case?
Hi,
Core-based Licensing – Windows Server 2016 Standard and Datacenter
Core-based licensing requires all physical cores in the server to be licensed. Servers are licensed based on the number of processor cores in the physical server.
Find the below points which gives you more clear picture on that
How to License Microsoft Windows Server
Basically you have to do the calculation for each Esxi host how many processors and cores have in total. considering this:
Each Windows Server license pack applies to two cores
Each Windows Server Standard license allows for two Windows Server Standard virtual instances on the covered

Hi,
So 1 copy of 2016 Standard License - 2 VMs
ESXi1: 10 VMs - 5 license 5x2=10 VMs
ESXi2: 7 VMs - 7 license 4x2=8 VMs
ESXI3: 5 VMs - 3 license 3x2=6 VMs
ESXi4: 17 VMs - 9 license 9x2=18 Vms
Datacenter License allows you to have Unlimited VMs.
So the cost of Standard against Datacenter
consider that if you migrate any VM in another host must be covered.

thank you AlessandroRomeo68
i will use your formula to calculate the license
Sorry: ESXi2: 7 VMs - 4 license 4x2=8 VMs
