Guest OS slow restart and shutdown on VMware ESX4

Hi,

i have a problem when shutdown or restart my VM that running windows 2003 it take 6-10 minutes but when i move the VM to another VMware ESXi 4 shutdown and restart fast like normal.

Server spec (ESX4) : Xeon 5520, 4GB, 250GB SATA and each VM i give 1GB RAM and only 2 VM running on this server

Server spec (ESXi4) : Xeon 3360,2GB, 250GB SATA

Thanks

Check if with only 1 running VM you have the same problem.

Maybe the HD is the bottleneck.

Do you confirm that is faster on the X3360 machine?

How many vCPU do you have in the VM?

It is a terminal server or XenApp server?

Yes x3360 is faster than x5520

vCPU/VM is only 1 is same for both server.

The VM is running as PDC, AV server, WSUS, vCenter. On x5520 i run only 2 VM/physical server. x3360 i run multiple Application server like WSUS, PDC and VMware Update Service, Vyatta vrouter without any issue of restart or shutdown.

The CPU frequency is different, but it's really a similar difference.

Have you tried some disk benchmark inside the VM to see if there is a BIG difference between the two servers?
