VZSNP files are created when running a Vizioncore esxRanger backup of a VM. When the backup completes normally these files are deleted. I have had several instances of VZSNP files being "orphaned" for a VM because the backup failed. It has been my experience that if no active backup is running on a VM you can safely delete the VZSNP files - even if the VM is up and running.
