Restore physical server to virtual machine

Is it possible to make restore physical server to virtual machine from the tape. Backup of the physical server is made by BackupExec 11d.

regards

Maybe.

VMware Converter can import system images from Symantec Backup Exec System Recovery (formerly LiveState Recovery) versions up to and including 10d.

It seems you are a few version ahead of converter's support, but it is worth checking.

Did you buy the IDR option and use it properly? We are a Symantec partner as well. If not, good luck. restore to original machine and use converter, acronis with UDR, livestate or platespin. Then move it over to ESX.

If you can still find it, grab a copy of the "original" VMware P2V product. Restore your tape image into a VM (restore to a data drive attached to a "Helper" VM) and then run P2V and do just the "convert" phase.

FYI: Backup Exec 10 and 11 are the "tape drive backup" products. Backup Exec System Recovery[/i] 6.5 and 7.x are the former LiveState products, with 7.0 being the current. Converter will not work directly with Backup Exec 11d, but as suggested below, the OP can look in to restoring the tape backup, then running converted on the newly created VM.
