Workflow to edit an existing Virtual Machine

Hello everyone!

Just wanted to ask if anyone can give me an example of a workflow which can be used to edit an existing virtual machine.

I suppose in order to edit the VM, you would have to power it down, edit it and power it up again.

I would like to be able to edit CPU, RAM and maybe add/remove a disk. I have looked through the create VM workflow and I see how the parameters are defined, but I don't know how to edit them on an existing VM.

Thank you

Take a look at this post:

http://communities.vmware.com/docs/DOC-10543 for adding memory for a VM. The same area http://communities.vmware.com/community/vmtn/mgmt/orchestrator/?view=documents has another workflow for adding CPU cycles. Adding CPU cycles or memory to new or existing VM are the same call since you don't really add, but instead you set how much memory & cpu you want.

There is a workflow that you can use to add a disk in the library.

Let us know if you need help with anything else.

Hello siayiu,

Sorry of being a complete noob, but I looked over the links you posted and I noticed the files have the .package extension. I haven't worked with these files yet (only with .workflow files) - so, could you point me in the right direction (some documentation or a quick hint on how to install and use them)?

Would I be using them by imbedding them in a new workflow?

Thank you,

Adrian

Hi Adrian,

The .package extension basically defines a package, which contains a collection of workflows, just the same way a folder contains files. The .package file in turn contains .worklfow files which are workflows. So, in order to use the existing workflows, you would need to import the package into your orchestrator server, through vCO client . Please refer to the vCO admin guide http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vco40_admin_guide.pdf_ , section using packages on how to import and export package.

Hope this would help and feel free to ask more queries, if you have.
