Automating vmware tools installation

Hi,

We are providing IAAS using VMWARE as a hypervisor. We have built our own dashboard using vix apis and vcenter.

We want to allow customers to upload their OVA / OVF packages and provision a VM from it. As per my knowledge we need to have vmware tools installed on the OVA / OVF template and also we need credentials of the template to assign IP address to the Guest VMs.

Now, the customers might or might not have vmware tools on the template. If the customer uploads a template without vmwaretools on it, and all we have is the root / administrator credentials for the template, is there any way we can get into the guest OS and install vmware tools / assign the ip address (may be using powercli or vix api or any other way, in short programatically)

We need to automate the entire process of installing vmware tools / assigning IP address and getting the VM ready for the customer.

Regards,
