I have a virtual server that I want to clone.
This should be easy in VC, I thought....
The master virtual server is loaded with rhel4 update 4. (20GB disk assigned)
I stop the virtual server and right click on the server, chose clone.
Give it a new name, assign storage pool etc....basicly just clicking next, next, next....
Then the cloning takes place, around 5 min...
When I try to boot the new clone it just goes to network boot.
Yes, I've checked the bios setup and put cdrom and harddrive before the network.
Then I tried to boot from a rhel4u4 iso image, going into rescue mode.
Did a "#fdisk -l" and it complained about the partitioning table beeing corrupt.
Am I missing something essential here?? I thought cloning should be straightforward!!
I hit the post-button a little bit early 😕
I have esx 3.0.1 Don't remember precisely the version of VC, since I don't have access to it from where I'm right now. But it's 2.x something. Was installed in January 2007.
I've managed to solve this problem myself. Someone had taken a snapshot of the virtual machine that I wanted to clone. This prevented cloning from VC to work.
After I deleted the snapshot and made a new clone, everything worked fine.
There were no errors indicating that something was wrong in VC.
Btw I have VC 2.01 build 32042
Is this a bug or a feature?
