Remove vCenter Server from cluster

I wanted to move my vCenter server to a different machine. When I installed on the 2nd machine, it asked if this was a stand-alone or part of a cluster (? not sure if it said cluster but that's basically it). I chose cluster. I them moved my machines from the old server to the new server then uninstalled the vCenter from the old server. Now when I open the vi client for the new vCenter server, it tells me that the old server can't be contacted.

How do I get the old server to stop bothering me?

Thanks!

Is there a way to break the linked mode, or do I need to uninstall and reinstall my vCenter server?

Use "vCenter Server Linked Mode Configuration".

See under start menu, in VMware folder.

At what point does it reference the old VC server name? Does your client try and use passthrough instead of you entering a username and password when connecting to the VC server?

Thanks,

Are you using VC 4.0?

The question was related to Linked Mode?

If yes, you have to use a standalone system.

Yes, Linked mode must be right. And it's already done, looks like I did it wrong. Dammit!

No to passthrough, I have to log in, although I do check the box for use Windows session credentials.

What is happening is when I launch the vSphere client and connect to the vCenter server, it tells me "There are issues with communicating with the following vCenter server(s):" and lists the old/non-existant server. So I think I need to break the link. Is this possible, or do I need to just suck it up and uninstall the new vCenter server and reinstall it as stand-alone?

Or run the installer once again and chose the option to isolate from linked mode. This should resolve your problem Smiley Happy
